Keyword search

To search for a single term or multiple terms, enter it the keyword(s) separated by space in the search field. By default, when you search for multiple terms, the search engine will only require that one of them is present in order for a page to match. Pages containing more terms will be sorted higher in the results list. You can require that a term is present by prefixing it with a + (plus sign); conversely, to disallow the presence of a term, prefix it with a - (minus sign).

For example General Assembly would match all pages containing one or both of those words. Querying for General +Assembly will result only into pages containing both words, while General -Assembly will give you a list of pages that mention the word General but not the word Assembly.

Searching phrases

You can use quotation marks (double quotes) to search for phrases, so while a search for: General Assembly will look for pages with General or Assembly in them, adding quotes to a search for "General Assembly" will give you pages which contain only those two words next to each other, but may still be divided in the original text itself by a page break or any punctuation.

Be aware that phrase searching is not symmetric! That is, searching for "General Assembly" is not the same as searching for "Assembly General" as the search engine will consider the order in which you're placing the words.

You can require/exclude phrases using the plus/minus signs: e.g. -"General Assembly" will show all documents not having these two words next to each other.

Wildcard searches

The search engine also supports single and multiple character wildcard searches within single terms, but not search phrases.

You can use a * (asterisk) to denote zero or more sequential characters in a term, so a search for min* will turn up results that contain the words minute, minutes, minimum, or mineralogy.

You can use a ? (question mark) to denote a single character wildcard in a term. The search string te?t would match both test and text.
