Imaggeo Photo Competition 27 January 2015 The sixth annual EGU photo competition opens on 1 February. Up until 1 March, every participant pre-registered for the General Assembly can submit up three original photos and one moving image on any broad theme related to the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. This year, in line with the theme of the EGU 2015 General Assembly, we particularly encourage submissions representing A Voyage Through Scales. Read more

Connecting Earth scientists and school students: apply to take part in I’m a Geoscientist! 23 January 2015 I’m a Geoscientist is a two-week-long science engagement event that takes place online. It aims to change students’ attitudes to the geosciences, and make them feel it’s something they can relate to and discuss in a rapidly changing world. For scientists, this is a unique opportunity to get involved with some public engagement from the comfort of your own home or lab computer, in your own time. New edition of GeoQ out now! 1 December 2014 The latest, and final, issue of the EGU quarterly newsletter GeoQ is dedicated to The Anthropocene. It includes a report from the Anthropocene Working Group, the International Commission on Stratigraphy body in charge of examining whether humans have impacted the Earth significantly enough to merit defining a new geological epoch, an era of humanity’s own making. This issue also features a contribution from the EGU President about new thinking, data and models for doing geosciences in the Anthropocene. Read more
