EGU Louis Agassiz Medal renamed to honour Julia and Johannes Weertman 12 February 2019 The EGU Cryospheric Sciences Division medal, awarded to individuals in recognition of their outstanding scientific contributions to the study of the cryosphere on Earth or elsewhere in the solar system, has changed its name to the Julia and Johannes Weertman Medal. This change aims to highlight the Weertmans joint contribution to the development of the field, both on educational levels as well as basic research. Read more
EGU’s response to potential changes to the European Research Council 11 February 2019 A scheduled re-organisation of the European Commission’s Research and Innovation Directorate General has raised concerns about its potential impact on the European Research Council (ERC). EGU Galileo Conference: Mass extinctions, recovery and resilience 24 January 2019 The first EGU Galileo Conference of 2019 will examine all aspects of mass extinctions from deep time to the present day. The programme aims to facilitate new connections that may lead to long-term professional relationships within the Earth, planetary and space science communities. Illustrator and sculptor will be artists in residence at the EGU General Assembly 2019 17 January 2019 Morgane Merlin, an environmental science PhD student and visual artist based in Alberta, Canada, and Giorgo Skretis, a visual artist and musician based in Chania, Greece, are the artists selected for a residency at the next EGU General Assembly. The meeting is taking place on 7–12 April 2019 in Vienna, Austria. Read more
Submit your images to the EGU Imaggeo Photo Competition 15 January 2019 The tenth annual EGU photo competition opens on 15 January. Up until 15 February, every participant pre-registered for the General Assembly can submit up to three original photos and one moving image on any broad theme related to the Earth, planetary, and space sciences.
