EGU Vice-President Günter Blöschl awarded AGU’s Robert E. Horton Medal 24 July 2015 Günter Blöschl, Chair of Hydrology and Water Resources Management at the Vienna University of Technology and former EGU President (currently EGU Vice-President), has been awarded the Robert E. Horton Medal of the American Geophysical Union. This medal is given annually to one honoree in recognition for “outstanding contributions to hydrology.” Read more
Fungus shapes hair ice – Researchers identify fungus responsible for peculiar ice filaments that grow on dead wood Press release 22 July 2015 Hair ice grows on the rotten branches of certain trees when the weather conditions are just right, usually during humid winter nights when the air temperature drops slightly below 0°C. Now, a team of scientists in Germany and Switzerland have identified the missing ingredient that gives hair ice its peculiar shape: the fungus Exidiopsis effusa. The research is published today in Biogeosciences. Read more

Until 18 September you can suggest new sessions with conveners and description, or you can propose modifications to current ones. Young Scientists renamed Early Career Scientists 6 July 2015 Following feedback from the 2014 young scientists survey, supported by the findings of the Young Scientist Forum at the EGU General Assembly 2014, the EGU Council has decided to replace the term Young Scientist (YS) by Early Career Scientist (ECS). Biogeosciences most cited articles in 2014 2 July 2015 The chief editors of Biogeosciences, an EGU open access journal, have put together a top-10 list of articles published in 2012 and 2013, which were the most cited ones in 2014 according to Web of Science. These papers contributed most to BG’s 2014 Impact Factor. Read more
