EGU Public Engagement Grants 2019 winners announced 8 April 2019 The EGU Outreach Committee has named Philip Heron as a winner of the EGU Public Engagement Grants 2019 for his project ‘Think like a scientist’. Astrid Harjung and her colleagues Laura Coulson, Romana Hödl and Katrin Attermeyer have also won one of this year’s grants with their project ‘Biogeocaching – a scavenger hunt for the treasures of biology around Lake Lunz’. Early career scientists: apply to attend the EGU 2019 science-policy event in Brussels 5 April 2019 Europe-based early career scientists (ECS) are invited to apply for the EGU’s ECS Policy Competition. The competition is open to all undergraduate or postgraduate (Masters/PhD) students and scientists who have received their highest degree (BSc, MSc, or PhD) within the past seven years. The winner of the competition will receive a ticket to EGU’s science-policy event in Brussels on 17 October 2019. Read more
EGU General Assembly 2019 Media Advisory 4 – ExoMars press conference, live streams, on-site registration Press release 2 April 2019 Next week (7–12 April), some 14,000 scientists will gather in Vienna for the 2019 General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union (EGU). The press conference programme includes presentations on new results from the ExoMars mission and latest research on plastic pollution, as well as a press conference where scientists will announce the Antarctic location they found to drill for 1.5 million-year old ice. Announcing EGU’s newest journal: Geochronology 2 April 2019 The EGU is launching a new publication at the 2019 General Assembly. Geochronology will be an open-access, two-stage journal with open review, following the model of other EGU journals, and will be published by Copernicus Publications. Read more

Exploring Geoscience Across the Globe: Freely available, EGU-supported textbook out now! 21 March 2019 The International Geoscience Education Organisation (IGEO) has published a new geoscience textbook, which is freely available for download. The book, supported by the EGU and the International Union of Geological Sciences, was written by EGU Committee on Education Chair Chris King. Read more
Former Italian Prime Minister and European Commissioner Mario Monti and Former Italian Parliamentarian Ilaria Capua at the EGU meeting 19 March 2019 The EGU will welcome Ilaria Capua and Mario Monti at the 2019 General Assembly during the high-level Science, Politics and European (dis)integration session on Wednesday 10 April. The session will focus on science and politics with a global perspective, and the impact of populism on European integrity and scientific research. Read more
