ERE Campfire - Induced seismicity

The Energy, Resources and Energy (ERE) Division invites you to attend a campfire related to induced seismicity.

Guest speaker: Auregan Boyet (Spanish Research Council, CSIC).
Title: Mitigating induced seismicity: Understanding triggering mechanisms at the Basel Deep Heat Mining project, Switzerland

Summary
This campfire will discuss a forecasting methodology using a seismicity rate model to explore mitigation strategies. Results suggest that pore pressure buildup is the main cause of fault reactivation during injection, while post-injection stress relaxation and redistribution contribute to delayed fault reactivation. Strategies like bleeding-off the well or progressive injection increase seismicity, while a shut-in strategy helps reduce it.
Future ERE events will circulate on our mailing list (ere-ecs@lists.egu.eu) too.
