ERE Campfire - Microseismicity
The Energy, Resources and Energy (ERE) Division invites you to attend a campfire related to hydroshearing and microseismicity.
Guest speaker: Iman Vaezi (Uppsala University).
Title: The threshold of induced microseismicity is related to plasticity; Case study: hydroshearing in fractured crystalline rock at the Bedretto Underground Laboratory (Switzerland)
Summary
This campfire will discuss hydroshearing in fractured crystalline rock observed during hydraulic stimulation at the Bedretto Underground Laboratory for Geosciences and Geoenergies (BULGG) in Switzerland. High-pressure fluid injection was used to enhance fracture permeability, and numerical simulations of the coupled hydro-mechanical processes show that the timestamps of monitored microseismic events correlate well with the times when permeability enhancement surpasses the previously maximum amount in each injection cycle.
Future ERE events will circulate on our mailing list (ere-ecs@lists.egu.eu) too. Further information about ERE division: https://www.egu.eu/ere/
