LGBTQIA+ inclusivity in science: an easy guide to pronouns

The inclusion and acceptance of transgender and non-binary people has become a major topic not only in academia, but in society as a whole. Transgender and non-binary people are far more likely to hide their identity in the workplace for fear of discrimination, bullying and microaggressions. Often gender non-conforming people will face misgendering at work which can impact their mental health and well-being, and, as a consequence, affect their scientific performance.

One way we can make our workplaces more accepting for our transgender and non-binary colleagues and students is to understand and familiarize ourselves with the appropriate way of addressing them. While not exhaustive, this webinar will introduce elements of LGBTQIA+ terminology and etiquette, and show by example how to use pronouns and actively contribute to a more welcoming workplace for everyone.

In the future, this webinar can be used as a guide on LGBTQIA+ terminology, and could be used by those responsible for creating policy for a more inclusive work environment.

The webinar will last for one hour, including time for questions and answers.
