Geoscience Days

The EGU Geoscience Days are events organised around Europe that aim to raise awareness of the Earth, planetary and space sciences to students, the wider public and national policymakers. They feature prominent geoscientists and are delivered in the local language of the country and/or in English. The events are put together by members of the EGU Outreach Committee, together with local representatives.

Portugal Geoscience Day

  • Mação, Ançã, Aveiro and Coimbra, Portugal

The team of geoscientists delivering the 2025 Geoscience Day in Portugal are creating a day of celebration of the importance of Portugal's geoscientific heritage and resources, to both it's people and industry. Shared between four locations; Mação, Ançã, Aveiro and Coimbra; the events include a hands-on workshop with village elders sharing ancient techniques and ways of working with the land; an exploration of the newly recognised World Heritage Site, Pedra de Ançã; discussions and debates on energy and sustainability at a geothermal pump installation; and a panel discussion with Portuguese policymakers on the UN 2030 Agenda.

Ireland Geoscience Day - Marine Geoscience for All

The focus of the 2024 EGU Geoscience Day in Ireland was 'Marine Geoscience for All', and used art, storytelling, and dialogue to bring marine geoscience closer to the public. Spread across four locations: Mayo; Dundalk; Cork; and Dublin; the day featured a range of activities from a marine geoscience art exhibition, storytelling, a deep dive into fossils, to a field trip to a local beach.

Greece Geoscience Day

A team of geoscientists host EGU’s Geoscience Day in Santorini and Nisyros (Greece) with a diverse audience: 60 young students from Nisyros Elementary School, 120 students from the Vocational High School of Santorini, educators, local journalists and representatives of the tourism industry.

Helsinki Geoscience Day

Romania Geoscience Day

The first EGU Geoscience Day will feature lectures by a number of Romanian researchers, aimed mostly at University students, as well as a Geosciences Café at the Astronomical Institute of the Romanian Academy, aimed at the wider public.
