Applications open for EGU Education Fellowships 2021
15 December 2020
The European Geosciences Union (EGU) invites applications from Early Career Scientists for two EGU Education Fellowships for 2021. The fellows will work to capture, synthesise, and disseminate educational resources and opportunities, particularly to those who teach the Earth, planetary, and space sciences at university level, but also to the wider education community, including primary and secondary teachers. The fellowships will run entirely virtually from 1 April 2021 until 30 June 2021, with most activity focused during vEGU21: Gather Online (19-30 April 2021).
Ideal applicants will have experience teaching geoscience at the university level and conducting geoscience outreach, along with excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for the creative use of social media channels to disseminate geoscience educational developments, innovations, and opportunities. These will include recent EGU Higher Education Teaching Grants, Geosciences Information for Teachers (GIFT) workshops, virtual fieldwork, and/or topical themes such as teaching geoscience during a pandemic. Some involvement or association with national or international academic or student organisations or societies would be preferred.
Applicants must be Early Career Scientists and must also have written permission from their line manager/employer/supervisor to participate (if appropriate). EGU Education Fellows will receive a financial compensation of 2500 EUR each and will work collaboratively with each other and the EGU’s Committee on Education.
A CV, written permission to participate (if appropriate), and a one-page application (including teaching experience and expertise, and science communication involvement and achievements) should be sent to the Chair of the Committee on Education (Email:education@egu.eu ) by 29 January 2021.
