Submit your abstract and register for the EGU 2017 General Assembly
3 January 2017
The EGU 2017 General Assembly, which is taking place in Vienna, Austria from 23–28 April, will bring together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary and space sciences. The deadline for abstract submission is 11 January, 13:00 CET.
In addition to established scientists, early career researchers – including undergraduate and graduate students – are encouraged to submit abstracts to present their research at the conference.
You can browse through the EGU 2017 sessions online (Call-for-Abstracts). Clicking on ‘please select’ will allow you to search for sessions by Programme Group (e.g. NH: Natural Hazards) and submit your abstract to the relevant session either as plain text, LaTeX, or a MS Word document. Further guidelines on how to submit an abstract are available on the EGU 2017 website.
Please note that the EGU changed their rules regarding the Abstract Processing Charge (APC) of €40. As of this year, abstracts submitted to the programme group Educational and Outreach Symposia (EOS) will also be charged. Abstracts submitted to the GIFT workshop are exempted from this rule. Late abstracts (submitted by conveners until 20 January 2017) require a final approval by the programme committee and will be invoiced with €80.
Early registration for the conference is open until 16 March 2017. Scientists can register online on the General Assembly website. Note that EGU members benefit from reduced member rates: to become a member, go to www.egu.eu/membership/, where you can become a new member or renew your EGU membership.
If you are a journalist or public information officer, please check http://media.egu.eu for information about media participation at the Assembly.
Please note that a medical congress with some 10,000 participants is happening in Vienna around the same time as the EGU General Assembly. In addition, the Vienna City Marathon (40,000 participants) will take place on Sunday, resulting in many hotels being fully booked the night before. Therefore, we strongly recommend booking accommodation as soon as possible.
Editor’s note, 11 January: ABSTRACT DEADLINE EXTENDED – Our conference organiser Copernicus has been experiencing an exceptionally high volume of abstract submissions today. To guarantee the smoothest processing of your submission including the payment of the abstract processing charges (APCs), we are kindly asking you to return to the system later on today. Although the official deadline for abstract submission is today, this has been extended to tomorrow, Thursday 12 January, at 13:00 CET. Therefore, if you submit your abstract later on today or tomorrow morning, your contribution will still be on time and the regular APC will be applied. Apologies for any inconvenience this might cause.
