EGU General Assembly to stay in Vienna until 2030
18 January 2023
The EGU General Assembly, the largest geoscience meeting in Europe, will take place at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) until at least 2030. The EGU, through its conference organiser Copernicus, signed a contract with the Viennese congress centre a few years ago that guaranteed that the EGU General Assembly would stay in Vienna at least until 2024. The parties have now agreed to keep the meeting in the Austrian capital for a further eight years, until 2030.
EGU Executive Secretary Philippe Courtial says: “The EGU is pleased to be able to to continue hosting its annual General Assembly in Vienna for the foreseeable future. Despite the recent challenges posed by COVID19, the staff at the ACV have continued to provide us with excellent suport and the ACV remains one of the few conference centres in Europe that gives us the flexibility we need.”
Martin Rasmussen Managing Director at Copernicus agrees: ““We feel that Vienna has become kind of a home for the EGU community. The applied flexibility of the past and the ability to adapt to the special needs of the Corona-influenced General Assembly 2022 have shown that the ACV as a centre, its team, and our Viennese suppliers can react to the needs of the EGU and its attendees. That encouraged us to partner with the ACV for 8 more years from now until 2030. We at Copernicus are very grateful for the opportunity to be part of this endeavour and to continue to cater to EGU members into the future.”
