EGU General Assembly 2025 – Meeting programme and provisional press conferences
24 March 2025
The programme for the 2025 General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) is now online. Along with over 1000 scientific sessions, the meeting will feature a Union Symposium on Gender in Geoscience, Great Debates on How to translate fundamental research into societal and policy impact and whether a paradigm shift from on-shore to off-shore mining serve the future of humanity, and short courses that range from communicating research through illustration to science diplomacy.
This year’s press conferences will once again bring you the newest research findings on topics across the Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences. Journalists will be able to find cutting edge stories on the present and growing threat from climate hazards; previously unknown connections between air quality and human health; and innovative solutions to the climate crisis, both from a technological and sociological perspective. This year we are also hosting a special Press Conference with NASA, on new findings from the Juno Mission.
The meeting, the largest geosciences conference in Europe, is anticipated to bring together over 19,000 scientists and is a great opportunity to hear about the latest research in the Earth, planetary and space sciences. It runs from 27 April to 3 May 2025 and is taking place at the Austria Center Vienna, in Vienna, Austria.

Meeting programme online
All sessions (over 1000) and abstracts ( over 19,000) are now available online.
The programme is searchable by scientist name, keywords (e.g.: Greenland, turtle), session topic (e.g.: climate, planetary sciences), and other parameters. You can generate your personal programme by selecting single contributions or complete sessions from the meeting programme.
Reporters may also find the list of papers of public interest, selected by session conveners, useful.
Provisional press conferences
We are planning around 6 press conferences at the EGU General Assembly, which will take place at the Press Centre located on the Yellow Level (Ground Floor) of the Austria Center Vienna. Provisional topics to be presented to journalists this year include:
■ Juno mission to Jupiter
■ Climate hazards (fires, floods, and other risks)
■ Climate solutions through geoscience and social science
■ Air quality, climate change, and public health
■ Plastics and their impact on human and environmental health
■ Technology and innovation in climate change solutions
Please note that the list above is subject to change. A subsequent media advisory, to be released a few weeks before the Assembly, will include a full schedule of press conferences with a list of speakers and short summary of the topics covered in each media briefing.
Union-wide sessions of interest
We have an exciting line-up this year of Union-wide sessions, including great debates, that could be relevant for media participants:
■ Engaging Communities in Hazard Risk and Disaster Management
■ What’s happening to atmospheric methane and how can we mitigate the rise?
■ The EU’s scientific needs for Disaster Resilience
■ Habitability in Our Solar System: Do Any Worlds Besides Earth Offer Habitable Conditions?
■ Science and Activism – Compatible or Antithetical?
■ Will digital technologies close or widen gaps within the geosciences?
Media registration
Members of the media, public information officers and science bloggers (conditions apply) are now invited to register for the meeting online, free of charge. Media registration gives access to the Press Centre, interview rooms, and other meeting rooms. It also includes a public transportation ticket for central Vienna, valid from Monday to Friday. At the Press Centre, media participants have access to a working space with a dedicated wireless network and a press conference room. In addition, breakfast, lunch, coffee and refreshments are available free of charge.
The list of journalists and public information officers who have registered already is available online.
Online registration is open until the Thursday of the meeting.
We strongly encourage all media participants to register in advance via this site to facilitate badge collection on arrival to the conference centre, the Austria Center Vienna. You may also register on-site during the meeting.
