GeoCinema at EGU25 – submit your short film now

24 October 2024

After last year’s success, GeoCinema is back for EGU25! If you’ve shadowed a scientist in the lab, filmed fantastic spectacles in the field, or have produced an educational feature on the Earth, planetary or space sciences, we want to hear from you!

Geocinema features short clips and longer films related to the geosciences, and from animations to interviews, all films are welcome. If you would like to contribute to this popular event, please fill out the submission form by 6 December 2024. To contribute a film, you must hold permission rights to feature the film in a public venue, and films must be in English or have subtitles in English, since it is the language of the conference. Multiple submissions from the same person are welcome. To get a feel for what we screened last year, take a look at the EGU24 GeoCinema programme. Any submissions that are not selected, as well as films under 3mins in duration, can also be hosted for our online, on-demand viewing. Take a look at the EGU24 GeoCinema on-demand programme here. For other inspiration take a look at our past submissions in the GeoCinema online archive, with films that explore all facets of geoscience – from the ocean depths to outer space.

GeoCinema sessions will take place in room E1 at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of the conference week, between 18:00 and 20:00 CEST. The room is equipped with a hybrid set-up, allowing us to live-stream the film to the virtual audience in addition to those on-site in Vienna.

Submissions are subject to the approval of the Programme Committee Co-chairs and must comply with the EGU Code of Conduct. Films will be scheduled based on the preferred date(s) indicated on the form, on a first-come-first-served basis until the slots are full. Following review of the footage, we will be in touch with you regarding scheduling and other organisational matters via email.

Please note that someone affiliated with the film must be able to convene the session by providing a brief introduction and moderating a Q&A discussion following the screening, should time allow. If this is not the person submitting the form, please indicate other(s) who can act as session convener(s) (with their permission). In order to convene the session, one must be registered for EGU25 on-site or virtual participation.
