Dead Elkhorn coral
This Elkhorn coral (Acropora palmata) near Buck Island, U.S. Virgin Islands has died and collapsed. As coral reef structure degrades, valuable habitat for marine life is lost and nearby coastlines become more susceptible to storms, waves and erosion.
