A day's sea surface temperature values in the Mediterranean in October 2011
On a day in October 2011, the sea surface temperature in the Mediterranean ranged from about 5°C (blue/violet) to 33°C(dark red). This image combines two different products: (a) on land, the ESA GlobCover product, which is an automated global classification chain based on the MERIS instrument (300 m resolution) which was flying on board the satellite ENVISAT of ESA; (b) on sea, the different colours are associated to a day’s sea surface temperature (SST) values, ranging from about 5 degrees Celsius (blue/violet) to 33 degrees Celsius (dark red) during October 2011. The later dataset was processed under the Medspiration project that used a variety of thermal sensors including the AATSR radiometer on board the satellite ENVISAT of ESA.
