Postdoctoral researcher in earthquake geophysics
The Tectonic Geodesy working group at RUB, Germany is developing approaches to improve the monitoring of active plate boundaries with geodetic data. We combine geodetic data analyses with geophysical modeling techniques and complementary datasets (such as seismic data products) to characterize the evolving state along various fault systems worldwide.
Your tasks:
We are looking for someone with research experience and continued interest in the topics of earthquake cycle geophysics, geodynamics, or applied machine learning. We expect that suitable candidates will have experience in two or more of the following topics:
- Numerical modeling of earthquake/tectonic/geodynamic processes
- Modern optimization techniques (e.g. deep learning, automatic differentiation, SciML)
- Use of geodetic data (such as GNSS, InSAR, gravity measurements) for geophysical modelling
- Seismic waveform modelling
- Finite elements simulations
We expect the successful candidate to pursue their own research on topics that align with the above-mentioned research interests of the working group.
The position comes with teaching-related duties according to §3 Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung NRW (Teaching Obligation Ordinance of North Rhine-Westphalia).
Your profile:
- You must have completed a PhD in one of the related disciplines (see above).
- Demonstrable skills in scientific programming
- Proficiency in running code on HPC
