Job description

The Geosciences Center of the University of Göttingen is a leading scientific institution with an excellent reputation in geoscientific research. We offer state-of-the-art experimental (Piston cylinder, IHPV, CSPV, gas mixing furnaces) and analytical equipment (SEM, EPMA, Raman, FT-IR, etc.), as well as an inspiring environment for the development of innovative research projects and the training of young scientists. To strengthen our Department of Mineralogy and Petrology, we are looking for a junior scientist (m/f/d) to develop their own research and teaching portfolio, ideally in addition to the existing research foci of the department. Your tasks:

  • Research in the field of experimental mineralogy & petrology
  • Carrying out high-pressure, high-temperature experiments such as CSPV, IHPV, piston cylinders and gas mixing furnaces
  • Preparation of samples for experiments and analysis Analysis and evaluation of experimental samples using scanning electron microscopy, electron beam microprobe, Raman, FT-IR, UV-VIS spectroscopy
  • 4 SWS teaching per semester, especially in the field of polarization microscopy and metamorphic & magmatic petrology

Your profile:

  • PhD in geosciences (preferably in the field of experimental petrology, geochemistry or mineralogy)
  • Experience with experimental work Ability to work independently on high-pressure, high-temperature apparatus and analytical equipment Knowledge of basic computer programs for data analysis and presentation
  • High motivation for teaching in the BSc and MSc area of the faculty and willingness to further develop the content and structure of the department’s teaching program
  • Communicative appearance as well as careful and reliable way of working
  • Knowledge of the English language (B2 level)

The position is intended to serve the qualification of junior researchers and offers the opportunity to build up a research and teaching portfolio.
