Job description

10 fully funded PhD positions available in the research training center “Alpine geo- and biodiversity during environmental changes (AlpsChange)”

We are looking for researchers interested in bridging disciplinary gaps between geosciences, biosciences and history – skills that are essential to address the challenges caused by the ongoing climate and biodiversity crises. PhD candidates will receive training and supervision as part of the FWF-funded doctoral program AlpsChange at the Doctoral School DYNAMITE (Dynamic Mountain Environments), Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences, University of Salzburg, Austria.
The PhD programme is organised by an interdisciplinary team from a wide range of disciplines, including Geology, Geomorphology, Ecological and Evolutionary Botany / Zoology, and History. We offer 10 interdisciplinary projects focusing on environmental and social perturbations to geo- and biosystems in mountain environments. Two of the projects (No. 5; No. 10) have a distinct focus on geomorphological impacts of geo-bio-society interactions.
For the two geomorphology-related projects, we are looking for outstanding candidates with a strong background in (Bio-)Geomorphology, Remote Sensing, Physical Geography or Geology. Strong interest in mountain environments and experience on both field and lab work as well as fundamental skills in GIS are essential requirements. Successful applicants are highly motivated to work in an interdisciplinary team and extent their expertise across disciplinary boundaries.
