The Harquail School of Earth Sciences (HES.laurentian.ca) is home to the Mineral Exploration Research Center (MERC.laurentian.ca), the lead organization for the Metal Earth Project, the largest mineral exploration research project in Canada. The Harquail School of Earth Sciences (HES) at Laurentian University invites applications for a limited-term appointment as Director of the Applied MSc Program in Mineral Exploration, starting as soon as possible.
The Program Director will coordinate the School’s efforts to expand the Applied MSc Program in Mineral Exploration. The goal is to ensure that our strong, well-established, and globally recognized program remains aligned with the geoscience and related skills needed to lead in the mineral exploration industry, solidifying its position as one of the premier applied programs worldwide. Responsibilities will include designing and implementing program growth strategies and courses, with support from the university administration, industry partners, and other academic institutions, to increase national and international enrollment. Program development will consider bridging gaps with other disciplines relevant to the entire mining cycle (e.g., engineering, business, environmental remediation). The successful candidate is also expected to deliver or coordinate graduate courses in the Applied MSc program.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
- An MSc or PhD degree in Earth Sciences or related field.
- Experience working in and interacting extensively with the mineral exploration industry.
- Experience working closely with academics. Teaching experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated communication, organizational, and project management skills.
- A commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive and vibrant academic and work environment.
