Job description

Seeking a Talented Atmospheric Modeler (GNSS) for Cutting-Edge Research!

Are you passionate about climate modeling and eager to push the boundaries of scientific understanding?

We are seeking a talented and motivated Doctoral Student to join our exciting new research project at the Institute for Meteorology and Climatology at Leibniz Universität Hannover (Germany). This full-time (partial possible) hybrid position offers a unique opportunity to combine cutting-edge research with valuable academic development.

The Project:

The LES2GNSS project, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), aims to revolutionize our understanding of water vapor fluctuations in the atmosphere. We will achieve this by integrating advanced modeling techniques with high-precision data from GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems).

Your Role:

As a Doctoral Student, you will play a vital role in this groundbreaking project. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting innovative research using the LES software PALM (Large Eddy Simulation model)
  • Analyzing and interpreting simulation results alongside real-world measurements
  • Developing and implementing new functionalities for GNSS meteorology applications
  • Participating in seminars, conferences, and contributing to scientific publications
  • Completing your doctoral thesis

What We Offer:

  • The opportunity to work on a cutting-edge research project with the potential to significantly impact weather, climate, and air quality research
  • Close mentorship from a dedicated supervisor focused on your success
  • Collaboration with a team of passionate researchers in a stimulating academic environment
  • The chance to build a strong professional network through conference participation and publication
  • A full-time (partial possible) hybrid doctoral position at Leibniz Universität Hannover

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Meteorology, Climatology, Geography, Geodesy, or a related field
  • Experience with atmospheric numerical modeling and high-performance computing (e.g., WRF, WRF-LES, PALM)
  • Proficiency in geographic data integration (digital terrain models, LiDAR)
  • Strong background in atmospheric science (desirable)
  • Knowledge of atmospheric boundary layer processes and turbulence modeling (desirable)
  • Understanding of geodetic principles (GPS) (desirable)
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis tools (a plus)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a passion for research and a strong work ethic. If you are excited by the prospect of pushing the boundaries of scientific knowledge, we encourage you to apply!
