Our mission is to elucidate the response and adaptation mechanisms of ecosystems to changes in the marine environment using an approach that combines ocean physics, ecology, and data science.

Furthermore, we will realize predictions of marine ecosystem change at various scales from the northwest Pacific to the global ocean, and thus establish a new academic field: ‘‘Ocean and Ecosystem Change Systematics (OECS).’‘

Job description

Job Description
WPI-AIMEC aims to elucidate the response and adaptation of marine ecosystems to global environmental change and to enhance future projections of marine ecosystem dynamics for stakeholders.
We are soliciting applications for 1 position of AIMEC Researcher or AIMEC Postdoctoral Researcher.
In the first year of the appointment, AIMEC Researchers will receive 3 million yen and AIMEC Postdoctoral Researchers will receive 2 million yen to cover research startup costs. (No further payments will be made after this.)

[Research Description]
(Immediately upon employment)
Research and development for investigating the role of western boundary nutrient streams over large scales in sustaining marine ecosystems, through combined application of models and observations. Of particular interest will be understanding how ocean transports of nutrients interact with and modulate the ocean’s biological pump across timescales. Please direct questions to Keith Rodgers at Tohoku University (keith.rodgers.b2[at]tohoku.ac.jp) regarding the research and development. *Please replace [at]with @ when addressing emails.

(The scope of possible changes)
The duties designated by WPI-AIMEC.

[Related fields of expertise]
