Postdoctoral fellowship in subsurface reactive transport
Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Petrology & Volcanology (GMPV)
Hydrological Sciences (HS)
Postdoctoral fellowship in subsurface reactive transport (max. 24 months)
We invite applicants from outside of Germany for a post-doctoral fellowship position in the Civil & Environmental Engineering Faculty of the University of Kassel (Germany) to become actively involved in the Hydrogeology Research Group ’s research activities. This is a full-time post-doctoral position funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) as a “Humboldt Research Fellowship” via the Henriette Herz Scouting Programme. Applicants are expected to provide a research pitch as part of the interview processes. To be eligible for fellowship nomination, the successful applicant must not hold German nationality nor have undertaken post-doctoral research stays, nor completed degrees or doctorates in Germany.
The successful candidate’s research focus should be complementary to the current research activities within the Hydrogeology Research Group. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated skills and practical experience in field- and/or laboratory-scale subsurface investigation techniques (e.g. hydrogeological characterization, hydrogeophyiscs, biogeophysics) and/or numerical modeling of subsurface reactive transport processes. Applicants with multidisciplinary research trajectories and a strong background in subsurface biogeochemistry and applied geophysics are particularly welcome. The successful applicant is expected to lead an independent research project in an area of shared interest between the candidate and the Hydrogeology Research Group.
About the Institute: The Institute for Water, Waste and Environment (IWAU), of which the research group is a part of, is a multidisciplinary research institute that focuses on theoretical advancements and solution-oriented applied research in water-related topics. The applied research focus of IWAU poises it as a direct partner for the innovative industrial water and resource management sector. At IWAU researchers can profit from an extensive existing collaboration network both within Germany and outside of Europe.
Requirements: Applicants must hold an excellent doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in earth sciences or environmental engineering, with a focus in hydro(geo)logy, biogeochemistry, geophysics or a related field, completed within the last 4 years. Applicants are expected to have an above-average publication record commensurate with career level, including academic publications in journals and publishing venues reviewed according to international standards. The research fellowship must commence within 12 months of being granted
Applicants with previous applications to the Humboldt Foundation or previous sponsorship in any of the Foundation’s fellowship programmes are not eligible to apply.
