The Department of Geoscience at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Earth and Environmental Science.
We seek outstanding scholars that will establish an innovative research program in water resources at the intersection of geology and hydrology. We are especially interested in applicants who provide synergy with existing Departmental research activities in arid zones, including the recent cluster hire in the broad topic of Sustainability in Arid Lands. In addition to developing an externally funded research program, candidates will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate level courses in water-related fields and contribute to a proposed online water resources program.
The UNLV Geoscience Department currently has 20 Faculty, 150 undergraduate students, and more than 40 MS/PhD students. The Department hosts multiple laboratory facilities, including stable isotope, argon geochronology, fluid inclusion, XRD, multi-collector (MC) ICP-MS, LA-ICP-MS, soils, high pressure piston cylinder apparatus, electron microprobe and SEMs. In addition, students and faculty have free access to an array of computing clusters at the National Supercomputing Institute, which is housed at UNLV. The UNLV campus is within two hours’ drive of numerous breathtaking geological sites and is an ideal location for field-based research and education. UNLV is a Carnegie R1 research institution, ranks among the nation’s most diverse campuses and has graduate programs rated among the nation’s top 100, including Geoscience.
