Postdoc on high resolution global climate modeling (RE2/R2)
Climate: Past, Present & Future (CL)
Ocean Sciences (OS)
The Climate Variability and Change research group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on high resolution global climate modeling. This position, funded by the European project EERIE, focuses on the development of an eddy-resolving version of IFS-NEMO and involves conducting and analysing high-resolution simulations to assess the impact of mesoscale ocean eddies on the European climate, with particular emphasis on extreme weather events.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing scientific feedback to improve the robustness of a Digital Twin based on IFS-NEMO
- Leading simulations and contributing to analyses on the role of mesoscale air-sea interactions in shaping the North Atlantic atmospheric circulation
- Evaluating climate extremes and coordinating BSC contributions to project deliverables
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in atmospheric sciences, engineering, or a related field, experience in high-resolution climate modeling, and proficiency in programming and data analysis. Postdoctoral experience and a collaborative mindset are essential.
