Job description

The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (www.eaps.ethz.ch) at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position.

The study and development of methods to enhance CO2-sequestration by amplifying natural weathering or biochemical processes is an area of vital importance and enormous growth in the decades to come. Within the field of Geomitigation of Greenhouse Gases, the successful candidate is expected to create and oversee an innovative research program directed at topics such as geo-chemically and geo-biologically-mitigated removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. The successful candidate will combine an array of approaches, including field measurements, in-situ laboratory experiments, remote sensing technology and numerical simulations at scales ranging from the laboratory to planetary scales. A strong analytical and/or modeling background is expected. The ideal candidate has a proven record of innovative research and the ability to connect with companies and government agencies dealing with geomitigation of greenhouse gases.

Commitment to teaching and the ability to lead a research group are expected. More specifically, the new assistant professor and her/his research group will be expected to contribute to introductory geology courses, establish advanced courses in geomitigation of greenhouse gases, and to teach relevant field and laboratory methods.

Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. ETH Zurich implements a tenure track system equivalent to that of other top international universities.

ETH Zurich is an equal opportunity and family-friendly employer, values diversity, and is responsive to the needs of dual-career couples.
