We are seeking an experienced facilitator and project manager to support the delivery and uptake of climate data. In this role, you will proactively tackle challenges and propose innovative solutions to advance climate modelling science, helping the world to better understand, and act on climate change.

The role
You will be a member of a small, dedicated cross-functional, agile team, working directly with leading climate modelling and data scientists of the World Climate Research Programme’s (WCRP) Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP). You will be supporting CMIP task teams and facilitating the development of the CMIP data infrastructure and the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF).
CMIP provides climate projections to understand past, present and future climate changes. A key part of the role will be helping to facilitate the delivery of CMIP data to the global community focused on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Seventh Assessment Report (AR7). CMIP is a global enterprise with an increasingly wide range of users delivered by contributors across the world. Therefore, high-level project and programme management skills are necessary to ensure its impact and maximise benefit across a range of communities.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
As Science & Infrastructure Facilitation Officer you will have the following responsibilities:
*Supporting coordination, planning, development and implementation of the CMIP data archiving and dissemination
*Providing facilitation support and management of relevant CMIP and WIP task teams and joint activities with the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF).
*Providing communication support to CMIP data infrastructure activities and engaging with relevant communities.
*Promoting equity and inclusivity in CMIP data access.
*Organising and facilitating infrastructure relevant meetings, workshops, conferences, training sessions and other activities relevant to CMIP.
*Reaching out to relevant wider communities such as PANGEO, Copernicus, and other emerging communities.
Skills & Experience
You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience:
*Master’s degree in physical or climate sciences or any other appropriate scientific field.
*At least three years of relevant work experience.
*Expertise in scientific or data infrastructure project and programme management and facilitation.
*Experience of coding languages including Python, C or Fortran.
*Expertise in working in an international environment with globally distributed teams.
*Excellent organisational, interpersonal, communication and mediation skills.
*Proficiency in English.
The following would also be desirable:
*PhD in climate science, particularly climate modelling.
*Qualification in project or programme management.
*Experience working with climate models and climate data, including familiarity with CMIP.
*Experience in science communication and outreach.
