The International Space Science Institute (ISSI) is an Institute of Advanced Study where scientists from all over the world meet in a multi- and interdisciplinary setting to reach out for new scientific horizons. The main function is to contribute to the achievement of a deeper understanding of the results from different space missions, ground based observations and laboratory experiments, and adding value to those results through multidisciplinary research in the framework of International Teams, Workshops, Working Groups, Forums or as individual Visiting Scientists. The programme of ISSI covers a wide spectrum of disciplines including the physics of the Solar System and Planetary Sciences to Astrophysics and Cosmology, and from Earth Science to Astrobiology.

Job description

The International Space Science Institute (ISSI) in Bern, Switzerland, invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Earth Sciences for a two-year period, ideally starting in January 2025, to be negotiated. The successful candidate should have received a Ph.D. within the last five year in the fields related to Earth Sciences in general.

Successful candidates are expected to pursue their own independent research program and to participate in ISSI’s research activities. They are encouraged to collaborate with the scientificstaff of the Institute, and to interact with a large and diverse community of scientists from all over the world. ISSI provides the possibility to participate and/or lead an international team visiting ISSI. Additionally, cooperation with Swiss universities is strongly encouraged.
