Job description

The GeoSphere Austria, Federal Institute for Geology, Geophysics, Climatology and Meteorology as an institution under public law with its own legal personality is now offering a position from December 2024 as Rock Geochemist (f/m/x).
At GeoSphere Austria, the position is allocated to the Geoanalytics competence unit in the Division of Geological Survey, Department of Geoanalytics and Reference collections with an employment scope of 40 hours per week, in Vienna (Austria).

  • Participation in research projects, particularly the mapping program of the Geological Survey, raw material research and paleoclimate research, including geological-geochemical survey work.
  • Instrumental geochemical analysis of rocks, preferably using ICP-MS and XRF, including maintenance of equipment and sample preparation as well as the ongoing development of the associated workflows and organization of consumables and service.
  • Acquisition and implementation of own, internally and externally (co-)financed, geochemical research projects in the strategic subject areas of GeoSphere Austria.
  • Scientific publication and presentation of work results.
  • Training and further development of geochemical analysis methods.
  • Participation in public relations, provision of specialist information and advice/answering inquiries.
  • Strengthening interdisciplinary research in the strategically relevant subject areas of GeoSphere Austria.
  • Scientific expertise in the areas of geochemistry (including Isotope analysis) of rocks, minerals and soils, the geochemistry of deposits and dumps as well as in environmental geochemistry.
  • Ensuring the availability of the most recent, quality-assured, instrumental analysis methods for determining geochemical parameters.
