Job description

UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2, UCD School of Earth Sciences, Temporary 24 months post
Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 within UCD School of Earth Sciences.

Dr Aline Melo (Assistant Professor in the UCD School of Earth Sciences) and Prof Murray Hitzman (director of iCRAG – Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre in Applied Geosciences), are currently seeking a Post-Doctoral researcher to join her team of 3 PhD students and 2 research assistants. The successful candidate will work on a project funded by iCRAG, the Geological Survey Ireland (GSI), and a group of six industry partners composed of multinational mining, exploration, and service companies (BHP, Glencore, Boliden, South 32, KoBold Metals, Sander Geophysics Ltd.).

The candidate will construct a 3D Common Earth Model for the Limerick Basin in Ireland by undertaking inversions of multiple geophysical datasets with petrophysical constraints. As a part of the research, a database of physical properties of rocks of interest from the study area will be built from legacy data and by acquiring additional measurements (velocity, magnetic susceptibility, conductivity, density, gamma, and chargeability) in the new Petrophysics Laboratory at UCD. The main objective of the project is to understand the regional basin architecture of the Limerick Basin and its relationship to the Zn-Pb-Ag-Cu mineral systems located within it.

Fixed Salary: €52,193 per annum
Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on the 24th of September 2024.

Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 12:00 noon (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications.
UCD do not require assistance from Recruitment Agencies. Any CV’s submitted by Recruitment Agencies will be returned.

The PD2 post is intended for researchers that have completed PD1. As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and should refer to Research Fellow posts instead
