Job description

The Hydrology Research Group at the University of Missouri is seeking a Research Scientist to provide programmatic research- and outreach-related support for projects related to climate change impact and adaptation assessments in the Mississippi-Missouri River Basin.

Responsibilities include working with the Principal Investigator, collaborators and graduate students to

  • assess changing weather patterns including severe weather in the Midwestern United States using in-situ, remotely-sensed and derived geospatial data, and develop tools and visualization products,
  • evaluate the impacts of projected changes in weather and climate on agriculture, forestry and water resources in the Midwestern US,
  • provide support related to data integration technologies to aid in testing, validating, and improving ecosystem model simulations, and
  • help prepare research proposals, project reports, geospatial data visualization products and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.

Applicants must have a PhD or MS degree with several years’ experience in hydrologic sciences, climate/atmospheric science, agricultural/biological/civil/environmental engineering, physical geography, or related fields; experience in assessment of climate models and data to enhance biophysical process understanding, and to develop tools for decision making; experience in high performance computing and programming in Python, R or similar programming tools are highly desirable; and excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

The position will be based at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, USA. The initial appointment is for one year, renewable for up to two more years based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
