Job description

The postdoc position is a part of the collaborative project Forecast framework for algae blooms to secure water supply on Gotland (ALGOTL), funded by the Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development (FORMAS) and involving Stockholm University (SU), the Swedish Meteorological and
Hydrological Institute (SMHI) and Region Gotland. The project aims to develop a novel forecast framework for algae blooms and their impacts on management of water resources on Gotland, with focus on the desalination of sea water and other coastal services on Gotland dependent on sea water quality.

The position will participate in modelling activities and analysis of decadal-scale regional ocean model (NEMO Nordic) simulations to investigate physical and biological processes in the Baltic Sea that affect development of algae blooms. The aim is to predict occurrence and intensity of algae blooms around Gotland due to the inter-annual variability and climate change and their impacts on water resources and coastal services on Gotland. The postdoc will also contribute to development of analysis framework for comparison between the model output and available observational data as well as impact- and risk modelling.
