Job description

The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) at The University of Texas at Austin (UT) seeks to hire an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the field of Solid Earth Geophysics. We are looking for an outstanding scientist who will conduct innovative research and will be committed to both teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

EPS is part of the Jackson School of Geosciences (JSG) which also includes the Institute for Geophysics and the Bureau of Economic Geology. The successful applicant is expected to develop a vibrant, externally funded research program that advances our understanding of the dynamics and evolution of the solid Earth and complements existing strengths within JSG. Areas of research specialization might include, but are not limited to, earthquake source and structural seismology studies and/or geodetic applications to tectonophysics.

Review of applications will begin September 1, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled. JSG is one of the largest Earth Science Schools in the country, and partners with other units at UT such as the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering & Sciences and the Texas Advanced Computing Center. We are located in a thriving metropolitan area with a dynamic, multicultural community of over two million people.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment.
