Two postdoc positions in urban hydrology modeling to predict coastal flooding
University of Padua
The University of Padua was founded in 1222 and it is one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious academic institutions. It is placed at high-ranking positions in both Italian and international ranking agencies for its quality of teaching and research activities as well as student life quality. The city of Padua is a beautiful old city funded in the middle-age and it is located near Venice and Milan which are easily accessible via frequent high-speed trains.

Hydrological Sciences (HS)
We invite applications for two postdoc positions to model the interaction between drainage systems, groundwater, and coastal water. The model will be used to predict urban flooding and pollution.
The research is within a larger project titled “Assessment of compound flood risk from the combined effects of sea level rise on storm surge, tidal and groundwater flooding, and stormwater” funded by USGS and described at this link: https://www.usgs.gov/science/assessment-compound-flood-risk-combined-effects-sea-level-rise-storm-surge-tidal-and#overview
Applicants should have a PhD in either hydrology, hydrogeology, water resources, or a related field and expertise in computational modeling of hydrological systems and GIS. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are necessary, and the knowledge of the Italian language is not required. The positions are for 13 and 14 months with the possibility to start in August 2024.
Interested applicants are encouraged to send their curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, and contact information of three references to Dr. Valentina Prigiobbe at: valentina.prigiobbe@unipd.it. Review of applications will begin immediately.
