Job description

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position, fully funded for one year with the possibility of extension for up to two additional years contingent upon satisfactory performance. The successful candidate will join an international collaborative project aimed at advancing the methodologies for deciphering tectonic histories from fluvial topography through the application of formal inversion techniques.

Under the supervision of Dr. Liran Goren (http://bgu.ac.il/~gorenl), the postdoc will be responsible for developing and implementing Bayesian inversion schemes employing analytic solutions to non-linear fluvial erosion models. This role is an excellent opportunity to engage in a high-impact research project in collaboration with international partners from China and the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Bayesian inversion codes.
  • Verify the inverse models using synthetic, numerically generated data.
  • Apply the inversion at two study sites.
  • Disseminate research findings through presentations at international scientific conferences and publish research outcomes in leading academic journals.

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Geosciences, Environmental Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong quantitative skills and coding proficiency are highly desirable.

How to apply

To apply, please email Dr. Liran Goren (gorenl@bgu.ac.il) and attache a single pdf with the following attachments documents:

  • A cover letter (approx half a page) stating your research interests, relevant skills, and experience.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Contact information for 2 references.
