Martine Feissel-Vernier
The 2005 Vening Meinesz Medal is awarded to Martine Feissel-Vernier for her outstanding accomplishments in the field of Earth rotation, geodynamics and geodesy, and for her devoted services to the scientific geodetic community.
The work of Dr Martine Feissel-Vernier for the IERS and her scientific research are highly regarded in the geodetic community. Additionally, she has been providing the geodetic community with important services, including the leadership of the IERS Central Bureau. She is still involved in services helping the geodetic community, such as her recent responsibility in analysis coordination for the DORIS International Service.
Martine Feissel-Vernier has published key papers in peer-reviewed journal that attained considerable attention in the scientific community. This is in particular true for her work on nutation (she was also part of the WG on Nutation who received the 2003 Descartes Prize of the European Union) and on the stability of the ICRF. Her work is always focussing on challenging problems for which she finds solutions. Her spectrum of research is quite broad and this allows her to make synergetic approaches necessary for the future of geodesy. She was additionally working in many committees of IAG and EGS.
