Science for Policy Award
The EGU Science for Policy Award recognises researchers, knowledge brokers, and policymakers who have strengthened the European science-policy interface, or significantly contributed to the integration of scientific evidence into the European policymaking processes.
The Science for Policy Award recognises individuals or teams, who have made a significant contribution to Europe’s science-policy interface (at a local, national, or international level), and who meet the following criteria:
- have provided scientific evidence to policymakers that has had a demonstrable impact on establishing, implementing or reforming European legislation (at a local, national, or EU level);
- have provided scientific advice to policymakers through formal (solicited) mechanisms;
- and have championed the integration of science and research into policymaking processes, or have supported the establishment of mechanisms that enable other researchers or scientific groups to provide scientific evidence more effectively.
Nominations should aim to demonstrate the candidate’s impact on: policy; capacity building within the scientific or policy community; and/or institutional change.
While the candidate’s science for policy achievements should be focused within Europe (as defined by the Council of Europe), the candidate(s) can be resident outside Europe, and/or non-European citizens. Candidates may identify as researchers, knowledge brokers, or policymakers, and do not have to be an EGU member.
Nominations by both EGU members and non-members are accepted and self-nomination is possible for this award.
For information on how to nominate scientists for EGU awards and medals, please check our nominations page and the guidelines for proposal and selection of candidates.
