Sarah Hanus is a PhD candidate in the Hydrology and Climate group at the Department of Geography, University of Zurich, Switzerland. Her work focuses on glaciers and mountains in regional to global hydrology. In her PhD, she assesses the importance of mountains in providing water for human water use in the lowlands.
The study presented at EGU24 focused on incorporating glaciers in large-scale hydrological modelling and evaluating the effect on streamflow in the past and under future projections. Moreover, the benefits and challenges of including glaciers in large-scale hydrological modelling were assessed. It highlights the need to account for glacier dynamics in large-scale hydrological modelling to improve predictions of future changes in water availability in glacierized river basins.
