The 2024 Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Award is awarded to Magdalena Lauermann for the poster/PICO entitled:

Channel-floodplain connectivity drives vegetation dynamics in semiarid floodplains: a remote sensing analysis of the Naryn river corridor in Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia (Lauermann, M.; Betz, F.; Heckmann, T.)

Magdalena Lauermann is PhD candidate at the Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tobias Heckmann. Her research focuses on the interdisciplinary analysis of river corridors using a combination of field methods, digital geomorphometry and satellite remote sensing. In particular, her interest lies in the question how connectivity and biogeomorphic succession jointly drive the development of riverine landscapes.

In her EGU24 contribution, Magdalena Lauermann analyzes the relevance of natural river dynamics for the succession trajectories of floodplain ecosystems along the Naryn River in Central Asia. She demonstrates, how a combination of digital geomorphometry, satellite imagery time series analysis and field data collection can be used to scale up analysis to entire river corridors what enables new opportunities for interdisciplinary river research.
