The 2024 Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Award is awarded to Laura Lünenschloss for the poster/PICO entitled:

H2O-vesicle formation in the hybrid region of a bimodal melt system. An experimental progress. (Lünenschloss, L.; Marks, P. L.; Nowak, M.)

Laura Lünenschloss is a master’s student at the Eberhard Karl University of Tübingen in Germany, specializing in mineralogy and working under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Marcus Nowak and Patricia Marks. Her current research interests include the degassing behavior of hydrous silicate melts. With an emphasis on the experimental approach, she expands upon a previous study by Marks et al. (2023) which revealed an enhanced H2O vesicle formation in the hybrid zone of experimentally decompressed bimodal hydrous melts.

Her contribution to the EGU2024 focuses on a further detailed experimental investigation of the mechanisms behind enhanced H2O vesicle formation in the hybrid zone of bimodal melts. In this process, she synthesized a glass of the hybrid melt composition on which extensive solubility experiments have been conducted in an internally heated argon pressure vessel. The resulting solubility data are essential to conduct decompression experiments of initially slightly H2O-undersaturated melts. These new data will provide decisive information on the melt degassing mechanisms of hybrid melt zones.
