Julia Schmitz completed her PhD in June 2024 at RWTH Aachen University within the Tectonics and Geodynamics research group. Her doctoral research focused on the deformation and recrystallization mechanisms in fine-grained rock salt. With a multi-method approach that included microstructural analyses, grain- and subgrain size statistics, EBSD, SEM-EDS, and µCT imaging, her work aimed to enhance the understanding of the rheology of naturally deformed rock salt. Her research provided valuable insights into the deformation and recrystallization processes contributing to the fast geological creep observed in fine-grained rock salt.
