Hyunsoo Seo is a Master's student at the Environmental Geochemistry lab of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Korea University, South Korea. Her research focuses on GIS and geochemical data analysis of soil and groundwater, including stable isotopes. At EGU24, Hyunsoo presented advanced probabilistic geostatistical methods, including Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS), to analyze and model the spatial distribution and potential health risk of heavy metals contamination in urban soils of Seoul metropolitan city. She utilized SGS to complement ordinary kriging, identifying the spatial distribution of population ratios of vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly, and incorporating this into risk assessment to highlight the importance of addressing population-specific vulnerabilities. Her ongoing work includes performing Monte Carlo simulations to consider the range and probability (uncertainty) of variables in risk assessment, and further interpreting the distribution and origins of heavy metals in soils.
