Gabriele Benedetti is a recent Msc graduate in Geology and Geodynamics at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy. His work focusses on quantitative and statistical structural analysis on Digital Outcrop Models and Discrete Fracture Network modelling.
The presented poster proposes to adapt Survival Analysis techniques (frequently used in medical trials and bio-statistical studies) to obtain fracture trace length statistical models corrected from right-censoring bias. The work highlights the importance of considering such bias and shows how censoring can affect the correct estimation of statistical parameters. Moreover, the poster proposes an alternative procedure to model selection using both a visual (using the Probability Integral Transform) and quantitative approach (measuring and ranking distances between the model and the empirical data).
