Simone Francesco Fornasari is a second-year PhD student at the Department of Mathematics and Geosciences of the University of Trieste, Italy, supervised by Giovanni Costa. His PhD project focuses on real-time seismic monitoring, the development of new approaches to estimate ground motion parameters in existing workflows and their integration with existing workflows.
At EGU 2022, Simone presented a new data-driven algorithm, consisting of an ensemble of convolutional neural networks trained on a database of ground-shaking maps produced with traditional algorithms, that exploits the information from the station data only to provide estimates of the ground-shaking maps and their associated uncertainties in real-time.
