The 2022 Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Award is awarded to Hadeel Al-Zawaidah for the poster/PICO entitled:

Microplastic dynamics within turbulence for improved modelling and monitoring strategies (Al-Zawaidah, H.; Vermeulen, B.; Waldschlager, K.)

Hadeel Al-Zawaidah is a PhD candidate at the Hydrology and Quantitative Water Management group (HWM) at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, where she is working with Bart Vermeulen and Kryss Waldschläger. Her research project focuses on understanding the vertical distribution and transport of riverine microplastics in the presence of turbulence. The project combines numerical and physical modeling techniques to establish numeric values for the primary parameters governing material dynamics in turbulence.
The presentation at EGU General Assembly 2022 outlined her PhD project plan, including the identified knowledge gaps in the field and the planned work packages to investigate the fundamental processes governing microplastic transport.
