The 2022 Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Award is awarded to Evangelia Samara for the poster/PICO entitled:
Calibrating the WSA velocity in EUHFORIA based on PSP observations (Samara, E.; Arge, C. N.; Pinto, R. F.; Poedts, S.; Magdalenic, J.; Rodriguez, L.)
Evangelia Samara is a final-year PhD student at the Royal Observatory of Belgium and KU Leuven. She works under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Stefaan Poedts, Prof. Dr. Jasmina Magdalenic and Dr. Luciano Rodriguez. Her scientific research focuses on (a) the understanding of the characteristics of solar wind from its generation at the Sun to its propagation at Earth, and (b) the improvement of solar wind predictions with EUHFORIA, which is a new 3D magnetohydrodynamics space weather forecasting tool.
The work presented and awarded at EGU 2022 summarizes how the recently available in situ observations close to Sun, provided by the revolutionary Parker Solar Probe mission, can be exploited to calibrate EUHFORIA and provide improved solar wind predictions at the vicinity of Earth.
