Kirsten Mayer is a PhD candidate in the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University. Her research focuses on tropical-extratropical teleconnections and applying novel machine learning techniques to midlatitude sub-seasonal prediction. She received this award for her presentation on utilizing an artificial neural network to identify opportunities for enhanced prediction skill on sub-seasonal timescales.
