Elizabeth Flint is a first year PhD student based at the British Geological Survey, and a member of the Envision DTP cohort. She is investigating the effects of water supply processes on macronutrient cycles around the globe. Her first year has been spent quantifying the significance of water withdrawals for various water use sectors in the United States as a nitrate retention mechanism, as well as estimating the nitrate flux that is subsequently returned to the environment through leakages from mains water distribution pipes. The research presented in her 2021 vPICO presentation reflected the current state of these initial findings.
