Tao Huang is a PhD student supervised by Prof. Hui Wang at School of Electronic and Information, Wuhan University (China). Supported by a scholarship of CSC (China Scholarship Council), he is currently studying at Section 2.3 “Earth’s magnetic field” at GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam (Germany), as a joint-PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Hermann Lühr. His current research focuses on ionospheric current systems, mainly the field-aligned current (FAC) and horizontal current.
The awarded poster presents for the first time both current types determined simultaneously by the Swarm constellation in both hemispheres. The maps of FAC and Hall current distribution are presented under different conditions. The particular interest is the distribution of auroral Hall currents. Their IMF and seasonal dependence are further revealed. This study will contribute to a better understanding of the current systems in the ionosphere.
