I am a PhD student in ETH Zurich, at the Department of Earth Sciences, under the supervision of Prof. Simon Löw (Engineering Geology group) and Prof. Peter Bayer (now is in TH Ingolstadt). My research focuses on developing a pressure-based tomographic method to characterize CO2 plumes in deep saline aquifers.
My EGU 2016 poster presents the general methodology of the two-phase pressure tomography and its inversion performance in three different numerical models. Meanwhile, crosshole seismic tomography is also applied to these models under the same conditions. Comparison and combination of these two approaches reveal that pressure tomography can complement seismic tomography by improving the identified CO2 plume geometries and reducing CO2 saturation estimation errors.
